Bi-National Spelling Bee Competition

21/05/2009

Sister Schools of San Diego is a non- profit organization dedicated to promoting cross- cultural understanding by connecting schools around the globe.

Classrooms separated by border, culture, and geography are united through similar interests and common principles. Students participate in collaborative projects ranging from literature and social development to science and technology.

By connecting classrooms worldwide, we use the academic setting to conquer ignorance, bridge cultural gaps, and create international friendships.

Our latest project was our Bi- National Spelling Bee held at the San DiegoEducationCenter facilities, in which schools from both sides of the border participated in this magnum event.

Our representatives from the USA were: Perkins , Capri and Del Sur elementary and us, Instituto Miguel de Cervantes as one of Mexico’s participants. All students came in with high hopes of achieving great results, they were both confident and alert and showed a great deal of maturity throughout the competition, all of them did great but only a few could succeed and so our students surpassed our expectations achieving great results, from the 6 students that represented us 5 of them went on to the finals, we were very proud of each and everyone of them.

Our results in each category were:

1st grade         Giovanna Villaseñor Chee               2nd place

2nd grade        Laura Ruiz Johnson                        3rd place

3rd grade        Sabrina Siqueiros Tenorio              Diploma

4th grade        Alejandro Torres Terrazas              3rd place

5th grade        José Sánchez Ruiz                         3rd place

6th grade        Israel Trujillo Quintero                  1st place

We would like to encourage and thank our parents and students for their hard work and great effort and invite them to continue in this wonderful journey called “learning”.

Congratulations to all !!
